Dr Anish Musa is a Co Founder of the Indian Association of Functional Medicine and serves as its President. In that role he leads the academic and professional agenda of the association: the annual IAFMCON conference, the standards expected of members, and the case for Functional Medicine as a rigorous clinical discipline rather than a parallel system of care.
He is a certified practitioner of Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine, the certification recognised internationally in this field, and he holds an MBBS with a Master of Surgery. He is also the Founder of VitaOne.
The position he argues for at IAFM, and in his writing for the association, is that a diagnosis describes where a patient has arrived rather than how they got there. Two patients with the same label and the same stage frequently respond quite differently to the same plan, and the difference usually sits in the systems that produced the diagnosis.
He is equally direct about the limits of that framework. Conventional diagnosis and screening for serious disease come first and are never bypassed, strong evidence is followed, and where evidence is thin the patient is told that it is thin. He has written that a framework unable to say the words we do not yet know is not a clinical framework.
